Sunday of the Passion (Palm Sunday)

We begin in the upper parish hall with the blessing and distribution of palms and then process into the church singing “All Glory, Laud and Honor.” Doing this, we recall the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem as well as our disposition to greet with joy the good news and blessings of the love of God and our readiness to forget it when we are challenged or things do not seem to be easy! We make a station at the shrine of the Sacred Heart and remember that God’s “...most dear son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered into glory before he was crucified....” We continue the collect saying ”...mercifully grant that we walking the way of the cross may find it none other than the way of life and peace....”

^{^[1]} The liturgy of the day continues with the lessons and the singing of the Passion–we do what our forebears did–saying “Hosannah to the Son of David” and then “Crucify Him.” We participate in the human condition. We then receive the Holy Communion–the continuing pledge of the Love of God and of our participation in the risen life of Christ. We have Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to prepare for the “Paschal Triduum,” the great three days during which we are made present to the saving acts of God and have opportunity to experience them for ourselves.
